NTUC launches ‘starter’ membership with perks aimed at young people
The labour movement is hoping to draw some 2,500 young people aged 18 to 25 to its new membership programme that offers tailored perks and career programmes.
The NTUC Starter membership, priced at S$36 a year, follows a year-long engagement that a youth task force under the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) conducted with more than 10,000 students from various institutes of higher learning.
It is one of several initiatives that the youth taskforce recommended following the release of its report titled The New Gen Worker 2023. The task force also recommended beefing up NTUC’s career mentorship and mental health programmes.
NTUC Starter members can tap the labour movement’s career programmes under Young NTUC’s LIT (Learning is Triggered) series, such as career mentorship and master classes. The membership also offers discounts for NTUC Club and movie tickets.
Launching the membership at Young NTUC’s annual symposium LIT Discovery 2023 on Friday (Jul 14), Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said the membership is one of the ways that the labour movement is continuing to adapt, innovate and reinvent itself to maintain its relevance for the broad base of Singapore society.
He added that Young NTUC’s initiatives will help specifically address the concerns of young people and better prepare them for the workplace.
