SINGAPORE Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong plans to nominate Seah Kian Peng as the new Speaker of the Parliament at the next sitting in August, the Prime Minister’s Office said on Friday (Jul 21).
Seah is a Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Braddell Heights division of the Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency (GRC).
The 61-year-old is also the deputy chairman of FairPrice Group and group chief executive of NTUC Enterprise.
He was also the Deputy Speaker of Parliament from 2011 to 2015.
The Speaker is assisted by two deputies, and they are currently Christopher de Souza and Jessica Tan.
The latter is now serving as Acting Speaker in the wake of former Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin stepping down earlier this week.
