[SINGAPORE] Terence Quek, the chief executive officer of the Singapore Institute of Directors (SID), has announced that he will step down from his role at the end of April 2026.

Quek, who has led the organisation since joining it in May 2022, disclosed the move in a LinkedIn post, stating that he is leaving to pursue an “unexpected and exciting” new opportunity.

He noted that he was not actively seeking a move, but that the new role presented a chance for growth that he could not ignore.

“The decision was not easy, but once I made it, it felt right,” he wrote.

In the post, he wrote that the organisation has a “clear three-year blueprint” in place, and is “steady and ready for the next bound”.

Quek said he is sharing his plans early to support the SID Council in widening the search for the next CEO.

“The Nominating and Governance Committee has begun conversations with potential candidates, and a leading executive search firm is supporting the process.”

He added: “I believe the next CEO will thrive if they are grounded, hands-on, collaborative, a strong communicator, caring, innovative, authentic and human in their leadership.”

The Business Times has reached out to SID for more information.

Under Quek’s leadership, SID introduced a Director Accreditation Programme in 2024, the first of its kind in Singapore. Before 2024, there was no formal assessment of a director’s competency.

Quek was previously the Asia-Pacific CEO of consulting firm Emergenetics International and the co-founder of strategic communications firm Caelan & Sage. He also spent 13 years as a naval combat officer and staff officer with the Singapore Navy.
