46 Singapore F&B companies take their fare to the Middle East
SOME 46 food and beverage (F&B) companies from Singapore will be taking part in an international F&B trade show in Dubai this year, with 11 heading there for the first time.
Led by the Singapore Food Manufacturers' Association, the companies will also be involved in business networking sessions with Middle East investors, traders and distributors.
Just over 20 food prototypes, developed by Singapore food manufacturers in collaboration with institutes of food science and technology, will be on display at the trade show, Gulfood 2020.
Local names such as Sin Mui Heng Food Industries and Khong Guan will also feature their new products, from steamed glutinous rice with lower glycaemic index to meat-free satay.
This comes amid growing demand for affordable and high-quality Asian food and food products in the Middle East, noted Enterprise Singapore, which is organising the business networking sessions for the delegation.
Food exports from Singapore to the region have increased steadily over the past three years as well.

"The trusted Singapore brand's emphasis on food safety and quality, and Singapore companies' ability to adapt to local preferences have been key in forging strong partnerships with Middle East enterprises," said Nael Islam, the government agency's regional group director for the Middle East and North Africa.
