Accounting software firm offers prize money to small businesses, non-profits in contest
The contest has a prize purse of more than S$630,000, which winners can use to fund their growth plans
SMALL businesses and non-profit groups in Singapore and six other global markets can now compete for a share of a more than S$630,000 prize pool to fund their growth plans.
The organiser of this contest is Xero, a New Zealand-based provider of accounting software which is looking for contestants for the Xero Beautiful Business Fund among its customers in Australia, Canada (excluding Quebec), New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, United Kingdom and the United States.
Contestants may apply to compete in four categories of their choosing: Innovating for Environmental Sustainability, Trailblazing with Technology, Strengthening Community Connection, and Upskilling for the Future.
There will be four winners from each market – one in each category. The prize purse will be shared among 28 winners.
Each winner receives S$15,000. From among the 28 winners, four will be chosen as global winners, with each bagging an additional S$40,000.
Submissions close on Aug 27, and the winners will be announced at end-October.

Xero chief executive Sukhinder Singh Cassidy said: “The fund is a chance to reflect on our purpose to make life better for small businesses and their advisors and communities around the world, and provide meaningful support, so our customers can fulfil their dreams or take that next big step with confidence.”
The Xero Beautiful Business Fund debuted in July last year, so this is its second edition.
Four of Xero’s customers in Singapore – Art Outreach Singapore, Oriental Remedies Group, Oysterly and Style Theory Singapore – triumphed last year, each winning S$15,000.
Raena Lim, co-founder and chief operating officer at Style Theory, a clothing rental platform, said: “With the funding from Xero Beautiful Business Fund, we could automate and streamline the onboarding, monitoring and data reporting processes, enabling us to scale our fashion sustainability programme.”
