MEMBER companies of the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (Asme) can receive support from Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) to develop capabilities in the areas of sustainability, artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity.

The association has signed a three-year partnership with NYP that will allow member small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to gain access to the school’s suite of resources for these purposes.

First, SMEs under Asme can leverage NYP’s expertise to develop sustainability road maps and collaborate on plans to meet their sustainability goals. These companies will also be offered direct membership of NYP’s Alliance for Sustainability Innovation platform, where they can access consultancy services, workshops and training sessions, among other resources.

Second, member SMEs can receive support from the polytechnic on AI and digitalisation in their business processes. Such support includes a digitalisation and AI readiness survey to help them track adoption levels, programmes and incentives tailored to their needs, as well as seminars and events on AI and cybersecurity to equip them with the skills and knowledge for digital transformation.

Third, NYP will be launching a new applied AI programme – in partnership with Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) – that allows eligible SMEs to work directly with the school to identify business gaps and co-create AI strategies and implementation plans. Businesses can tap funding subsidies from EnterpriseSG to roll out these customised AI solutions.

Fourth, the polytechnic will conduct cybersecurity assessments and programmes for SMEs under Asme to help them better understand their online vulnerabilities, as well as how to protect their businesses from digital threats. NYP staff and students will then work with these companies, through industry projects or internships, to implement solutions to strengthen their cyber defences.

In addition, precision-engineering SMEs are set to get a leg up in their training needs through the Jobs-Skills Integrator for precision engineering, for which NYP is the appointed partner.

Through NYP, these companies will have access to products and services tailored to their industry, including consultancy, placement and training, and networking opportunities. They can also participate in recruitment and training events to help them attract and develop precision-engineering talent.

Asme president Ang Yuit said: “Through this memorandum of understanding, our members will be able to tap the expertise of NYP in areas such as AI, cybersecurity and sustainability, and, at the same time, provide direct input and feedback to NYP on the job market and skills needed in the industry.”
