Bee Cheng Hiang turns to tech, serves up new lifestyle offerings
Its proposed venture into app development is a leap forward in the transformation journey the company started roughly 10 years ago.
BAK kwa company Bee Cheng Hiang is famous for its traditional food products, but it is striking out on a very modern path with its plans to launch not just an app, but an app development company as well.
This may be surprising, coming from a company that has taken an avowed cautious approach to technology, selectively automating some parts of its bak kwa production process while retaining the human touch in other aspects to achieve an authentic taste.
But group general manager Daniel Wong told The Business Times that the decision is part of the brand's shift from being a product company to more of a lifestyle company in the way it meets customers' needs.
