THE Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) has elected Neil Parekh as chairman and a new board of directors for the period of 2022 to 2024. Parekh previously served as SICCI’s vice-chairman. He is currently a partner and head of Asia, Australia and New Zealand at European asset manager Tikehau Capital, and also the chief executive of special purpose acquisition company Pegasus Asia, which is listed on the Singapore Exchange.  (* see amendment note below) SICCI also appointed 16 new members to its board of directors, including 2 vice-chairmen: Maniam M S and Zahabar Ali.  Including Parekh, the 17 members of SICCI’s new board of directors were declared elected unopposed by the scrutineers for the elections, according to a press statement by the chamber. The elections had been scheduled to take place on Jun 10, if there were contests for any of the positions.  Parekh takes over the role from incumbent T Chandroo, who was chairman of SICCI for 2 terms.  Said Chandroo: “The new board comprises a mix of old and fresh faces and female members too, and this is what makes for leadership renewal and grooming a younger generation of Singaporean entrepreneurs to fly the flag of the Indian business community.” Parekh noted that the last few years have highlighted the need for community organisations such as SICCI to be active in helping businesses “survive and thrive” in a challenging business environment.

“My team and I look forward to contributing to the growth of its members and in working together with our sister chambers to help maintain Singapore as an attractive location for investment and for regional business development,” he said. Parekh and the new board of directors will take office on Jun 15 at SICCI’s annual general meeting.

*Amendment note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that Neil Parekh previously served as SICCI’s vice-president, instead of vice-chairman.
