THE Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has launched a concept and price revenue tender to develop and operate a wellness attraction on the Marina South Coastal site.

It said on Friday (Jul 5) that the project is in line with its strategy to increase wellness experiences on its slate of tourism offerings.

It noted that it is looking for proposals with “innovative and high-quality concepts” that can improve the physical, emotional or mental wellness of participants in such programmes.

These proposals could range from therapeutic art to fitness or recovery-related activities, including indoor and outdoor water or equipment-based activities.

STB said that the attraction must implement a “strong pipeline” of regular wellness-themed events or programmes on its premises, and in the public spaces in the surrounding areas.

Carrie Kwik, executive director of World Expo and special projects at STB, said: “With the rising demand for more restorative and wellness-related experiences, we believe Singapore is well-placed to be a leading urban-wellness destination that prioritises holistic well-being.”

She added that the attraction will contribute to the country’s tourism sector, as it could compel travellers to extend their stay and encourage locals to enjoy various wellness offerings.

STB noted that when the wellness attraction is completed, it will be a key draw in the precinct.

Existing places of interest in the area include Gardens by the Bay, the Founders’ Memorial in Bay East and the Marina Barrage.

The Marina South Coastal site, 42,266 sq m in size, has a lease term of 45 years, with an option to extend for 15 years, subject to terms and conditions. The site has a maximum gross floor area of 80,000 sq m and is on the waterfront.

The site’s primary uses include fitness and lifestyle, complementary health and alternative therapies, and wellness facilities.
