TAN Chong Meng will be the chairman of the board of the National University Health System (NUHS) from Jan 1, 2025, to Dec 31, 2027.

He will succeed Hsieh Fu Hua when he retires at the end of this year, announced the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Thursday (Dec 26).

Tan, 64, joined the NUHS board in 2011 and has served as deputy chairman since December 2022.

He is currently the chairman of JTC Corporation and a board director of Temasek. Since April this year, he is also a member of the National University of Singapore’s board of trustees.

Tan also previously served as the group CEO for port operator PSA International, where he took the helm for 12 years.

As chairman of NUHS, he will provide strategic leadership and guidance to the cluster as it improves its health system and workforce, said MOH.

It added that Tan will also lead key infrastructure projects. These include developing the new Tengah General and Community Hospitals, as well as redeveloping the Alexandra Hospital campus and the National University Hospital campus.

Outgoing chairman Hsieh has led the NUHS board as chairman since 2019. Prior to that, he was also the chairman of the then Jurong Health Services (JurongHealth) board and chairman-designate of the NUHS board in 2017 and 2018.

During his tenure, he oversaw the merger of JurongHealth institutions Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Jurong Community Hospital with NUHS.

He also directed the NUHS infrastructure development master plan, which is an ongoing project to improve healthcare facilities and services, patient experience, as well as expand capacity across the cluster’s academic health system and entities.

Professor Yeoh Khay Guan, chief executive of NUHS, said: “Fu Hua’s…collaborative and strategic leadership leaves a lasting impact on our mission to promote a healthy community, shaping medicine and transforming care.”
