Volvo opens office in Singapore for technology, software development
Located in Kallang, the tech hub has been established with the help of EDB
SWEDISH carmaker Volvo officially opened a research and development facility in Singapore on Wednesday (Jan 22).
Located in Kallang at Aperia Tower 2 and spanning 9,432 square feet, the Volvo Tech Hub Singapore currently employs 15 people. A Volvo Cars spokesperson said that the team will expand in “accordance with business requirements”, without elaborating.
Volvo declined to comment on the cost of the hub’s development, which was established in September 2023 with the support of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB).
Details of the nature of EDB’s support were not disclosed.
The hub will develop advanced technology to support Volvo’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.
It will focus on robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics, as well as power and engineering electronics.

The technology and software developed will be used in Volvo’s future vehicles.
The Volvo spokesperson said that Singapore was chosen for its “great ecosystem” comprising a strong network of academia, industry and government partners, as well as the country’s development of advanced technology.
EDB executive vice-president Cindy Koh said that the hub’s focus areas of robotics, AI and electronics play to the Republic’s strengths.
