INDONESIA’S biggest tech firm GoTo Gojek Tokopedia announced on Friday (Mar 10) that it would be carrying out another round of layoffs, aimed at streamlining the organisation and boosting profitability.
About 600 roles will be affected, the company said in a statement. This follows 1,300 jobs that were cut late last year.
GoTo previously said that the layoffs were aimed at making the company more “agile”, and at maintaining growth amid challenging global economic conditions.
On the layoffs, the company said: “One such change is the consolidation of certain businesses and teams across the ecosystem, to create a more streamlined organisation that is better equipped to respond to market demands.” It added that the merchant business of GoTo Financial would be redesigned.
Last month, GoTo said that its adjusted Ebitda was expected to turn positive in the last quarter of 2023, due to its cost-management measures. REUTERS
