The apple of my AI
Daphne Yow
IF YOU feel like you have heard a lot about artificial intelligence (AI) last week, that’s because Singapore announced a nationwide plan called the National AI Strategy 2.0 (Nais 2.0). The plan includes AI-specific training programmes, a carbon budget for data centres and even a dedicated physical space for AI collaboration.
As the name suggests, this is not the first time Singapore has formed an AI strategy. Just four years ago, the government invested over S$500 million to build an AI ecosystem here. And earlier this year, Singapore launched the AI Verify Foundation to promote responsible AI use.
While no dollar value of investment into Nais 2.0 has been revealed, the strategy seems to be more ambitious than its predecessor. It aims to position Singapore as a world leader in AI by achieving breakthroughs and contributing to international discourse on governance.
