MIGHTY Jaxx, a designer collectibles maker backed by East Ventures, said it has made multimillion-dollar acquisitions of Kinetiquettes, a high-end statue collectible company, and PLAYe, a seller of video games, consoles and collectibles.
Both companies are based in Singapore. Mighty Jaxx said that its acquisition of Kinetiquettes will enable it to develop a new product category.
The transaction adds popular gaming intellectual property — including Capcom’s Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, SNK’s The King of Fighters, Arc System Works’ Guilty Gear and hit Japanese anime titles Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia — to Mighty Jaxx’s portfolio.
Meanwhile, the PLAYe acquisition will increase the visibility of Mighty Jaxx products in stores and enable the startup to tap PLAYe’s direct-to-consumer touchpoints and channels.
Mighty Jaxx has raised over US$40 million to date, to fuel its goal of developing products that “live in both the physical and digital worlds”. Its recent US$20 million Series A+ round drew investments from Web3 investor Mirana Ventures and Korea Investment Partners.
The company, founded in 2012, has worked with global names including Netflix, Formula One and Hasbro.
Following the acquisition of the 2 Singapore companies, Mighty Jaxx will have a combined workforce of over 150 people globally, with 80 per cent in Singapore. It intends to increase its headcount to 200 by year-end.
Kinetiquettes and PLAYe will continue to operate independently while under the umbrella of Mighty Jaxx’s management.
