GoTo launches financial services app GoPay in Indonesia

INDONESIAN tech giant GoTo, the parent company of Gojek and Tokopedia, has expanded the coverage for its financial services app GoPay to include all cities in Indonesia starting Wednesday (Jul 26).

This comes after a pilot run started in April this year, when the group introduced the app in various cities throughout Indonesia.

With the expansion, people who are not Gojek and Tokopedia users will also be able to download the app, signalling the group’s move to deepen its financial services offerings beyond the ride-hailing and e-commerce ecosystems.

Consumers will be able to use various financial services in the app, such as making a maximum of 100 free money transfers per month, buying phone credit and data packages at special prices, and using an expense report feature to help them in finance planning.

Hans Patuwo, GoTo’s president of financial technology, said that the group hopes to remove the barriers to accessing financial services through the app.

“To do this, we have paid special attention to every aspect of the app, including making it light in size so that those for whom phone capacity is a limited resource will be able to download it, and ensuring the app’s design is simple and user-friendly,” he said.

He added that the group will “continue to grow the capabilities of the GoPay app and the features within it to ensure we can meet the financial needs of Indonesians from all walks of life”.
