LOGISTICS player J&T Express is investing RM600 million (S$187.6 million) to buy a land parcel and build a logistics centre in Selangor, Malaysia, the company announced on Tuesday (Jun 7).
The 30-acre land parcel is located in the township of Bandar Rimbayu and will be used to build an integrated logistics centre for express distribution, transportation and warehousing as J&T grows its business in Malaysia, where it has operated for 5 years.
“The new facility will be fitted with our advanced technology, which enables us to better tap on our existing networks to meet the growing demands of the burgeoning e-commerce industry in South-east Asia,” said Charles Hou, group vice-president of J&T.
Founded in 2015, Indonesia-headquartered J&T has grown rapidly across the region as demand for e-commerce logistics booms. Beyond South-east Asia, it also operates in China, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Mexico.
The company reportedly hit a US$20 billion valuation last November after raising US$2.5 billion in funding from investors including Boyu Capital, Hillhouse Capital Group and Sequoia Capital China. It was then said to have been eyeing an initial public offering in Hong Kong.
