Shrimp farming enabler Jala bags US$13.1 million in series A
INDONESIA-BASED digital solution provider for the shrimp farming industry, Jala has raised US$13.1 million in series A funding round.
The round was led by Indonesian venture capital firm Intudo Ventures, with participation from tech-focused corporate venture arm of Sinar Mas, Sinar Mas Digital Ventures, and existing investors Mirova and Meloy Fund.
Founded in 2017, Jala is technology company in the aquaculture industry, with a focus on streamlining the shrimp farming process. Its flagship Jala app currently has over 20,000 users, monitoring shrimp across more than 35,300 ponds.
With the Series A round of financing, Jala plans to scale up its operations across key Indonesian regions with growth potential of the industry, including Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Nusa Tenggara.
“This funding will enable us to bring our end-to-end shrimp farming solution to remote areas in Indonesia and equip local farmers with the technological and financial support they need in advancing the country’s shrimp production,” said Liris Maduningtyas, co-founder and chief executive of Jala.
Patrick Yip, founding partner of Intudo Ventures, said Indonesia, as the world’s fourth-largest producer of shrimp, plays a critical role in the global seafood supply chain.

“With the continued evolution of the country’s shrimp industry, the demand for modern cultivation solutions has risen in tandem,” said Yip, adding that Jala’s digital solutions can help to bring Indonesian shrimp to global markets.
