ALTARA Ventures, a Singapore-based venture firm helmed by Koh Boon Hwee and investment veterans, joined the US$12.6 million Series A fundraise for US software startup FreeAgent.

The round was led by Pelion Venture Partners and also joined by existing investor BlueRun Ventures.

Founded in 2016, FreeAgent offers a cloud platform that helps businesses manage customer-facing work. It views itself as a "serious platform alternative to Salesforce", according to co-founder and chief executive Dave Stephens, who previously founded Nasdaq-listed Coupa Software.

Dave Ng, general partner at Altara Ventures, said that Mr Stephens has a track record of success given his experience with Coupa, as well as in holding leadership positions at Oracle and ServiceNow.

"Having known him for more than a decade, Altara Ventures is excited to partner with the FreeAgent team in their effort to reimagine the customer relationship management market, and expect great things," Mr Ng added.

With the funding, FreeAgent intends to deepen product development and ramp up go-to-market activities.
