AS Singapore's apex cyber security watchdog Cyber Security Agency (CSA) gets down to work from the start of this month, a report by security vendor FireEye sheds light on the kind of challenges it faces. According to a report prepared by the company, a hacker group called APT30, with apparent links to China, has been targeting Singapore, other Asean states and India for at least the past 10 years.
FireEye's Asia-Pacific vice-president and chief technology officer, Bryce Boland, says that APT30's persistent and methodical attacks have targeted organisations across this region and have largely evaded detection until recently. "If any organisation, large or small, felt that advanced cyber attacks affected only well-known companies and countries with large GDP (gross domestic product), this report should make you think twice."
