THE government is rolling out the welcome mat for large corporates and SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) with water management solutions to form a Singapore consortium to bid for China's sponge city projects.
China - a country plagued by flooding and waterlogging (the saturation of soil with water, due to heavy rainfall) - wants to build cities that can better harvest rainwater through urban underground water systems that operate like a sponge. These systems will absorb and store rainwater, and release it for use when needed.
