WITH The Internet of Things (IoT) rapidly becoming mainstream in the Asia-Pacific, some research reports suggest that there could be as many as 766 million connected smart devices in the region by next year. This will result in a deluge of data which in turn will put pressure on companies to find new ways and resources to store and process this data. The trend is already noticeable in the region.

Ravi Rajendran, vice-president and general manager for Asean & India at Hitachi Data Systems (HDS), tells BizIT that the "daunting challenge" of Big Data is becoming a very real problem and "businesses on flat IT budgets are struggling to manage the rapid increase in data volume and complexity".
