More control over BYOD needed: IDC
Companies need to work on security and simplifying IT, writes KEVIN KWANG
BYOD - bring-your-own-device - is an ongoing trend sweeping through enterprises as employees opt to bring their mobile computing devices to work. However, companies will need to evolve their mobility strategies to a "choose-your-own-device" (CYOD) one in order to have a more controllable, secure network environment.
According to Charles Reed Anderson, Asia-Pacific head of telecom practice and mobility lead at research agency IDC, BYOD is fast spreading as workers eschew company-issued notebooks and laptops, for personal devices that tend to be lighter and have better battery life.
However, this then brings challenges to the corporate backend because these systems are not configured to cope with secured access by myriad devices and users, he noted during a briefing session held by the research firm last week.
