GARENA, a Singapore-based Internet company and South-east Asia's largest unicorn (privately valued at US$3.75 billion), on Wednesday made clear its ambition for its mobile-first e-commerce platform Shopee to be a leading player in the region.

This comes amid keen competition from its relatively older, well-funded regional peers such as Singapore's Carousell and Indonesia's Tokopedia - even as all three players are reportedly not making any money in what is still a nascent industry.
