WITH industry and academia in Singapore doing trials of innovative ideas to come up with solutions to real-life problems, a key project here is in the testing of whether data centres can be operated under the high-temperature, high-humidity conditions of the tropics.
Minister for Communications and Information Yaacob Ibrahim, speaking at the Ministerial Forum on InfoComm Technology (ICT) on Monday, indicated that trials are ongoing to develop the world's first Tropical Data Centre (TDC), which could cut energy consumption by such centres by up to 40 per cent.
