Vantage Data Centers bags US$1.6 billion from GIC, Abu Dhabi sovereign fund for Johor, Apac expansion
The commitment supports its acquisition of a 300-megawatt hyperscale campus in Johor, with additional capital earmarked for regional expansion
[SINGAPORE] Vantage Data Centers has clinched a US$1.6 billion investment from GIC, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) and a global institutional investor to scale its Asia-Pacific platform.
This will support its acquisition of a Johor data centre campus in the portfolio of Yondr Group, with additional capital earmarked for the further growth of its Apac platform, the hyperscale data centre campus provider said on Thursday (Sep 11).
“The new commitment from GIC and ADIA underscores the growing opportunity in the Apac region for digital infrastructure driven by accelerating artificial intelligence demand,” Vantage said.
It noted that Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund and ADIA are its existing investors.
Jeremy Deutsch, president of Vantage for Apac, said that the investment is a “pivotal milestone” in Vantage’s growth journey in the region, as the addition of the Johor campus to the company’s portfolio will bring its Apac footprint to one gigawatt of capacity.
Boon Chin Hau, chief investment officer of infrastructure at GIC, said: “As a leading global data centre developer and operator, Vantage is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for data centre capacity in the Apac region.”

“We are pleased to partner with Vantage, alongside DigitalBridge and ADIA, to support the development of data centre infrastructure across the Apac region,” he added.
Khadem AlRemeithi, executive director of the infrastructure department at ADIA, said: “This new commitment supports the growth of Vantage’s Apac platform at a time when advances in artificial intelligence and cloud computing are driving regional demand for data centre capacity.”
He noted that the expansion of ADIA’s existing relationship with Vantage aligns with its strategy of investing in infrastructure that enables digitalisation.
To expand into the Johor market, Vantage plans to acquire a 300-megawatt hyperscale data centre campus in Sedenak Tech Park.
The campus is one of the largest hyperscale data centre campuses in South-east Asia, Vantage said. It is part of the portfolio of Yondr Group, a global hyperscale data centre developer, owner and operator.
Yondr Group’s portfolio was recently acquired by investment vehicles managed by affiliates of DigitalBridge Group – a global alternative asset manager and one of Vantage’s largest investors.
This is not the first time GIC has had dealings with the data centre sector.
In August, it was reportedly in talks to invest in data centre assets owned by Australian property firm Goodman Group, said a report carried by the Australian Financial Review.
The sovereign wealth fund is also a cornerstone investor in NTT Data Centre Reit, which debuted on the Singapore Exchange on Jul 14.
With a US$100 million investment for a 9.8 per cent stake, it is the second-largest shareholder after the Reit’s sponsor, Japanese telecom giant NTT.
In October 2024, it signed a joint venture agreement with data centre firm Equinix and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board to grow Equinix’s data centre portfolio.
