[LONDON] European stock markets slid at the start of trading on Thursday following losses across Asia and on Wall Street caused by a fresh slump in oil prices.

London's benchmark FTSE 100 index shed 0.8 per cent to 6,151.64 points compared with Wednesday's close.

In the eurozone, Frankfurt's DAX 30 lost 0.5 per cent to 9,974.60 points and the Paris CAC 40 gave up 0.8 per cent to 4,390.11
