Hong Kong, Shanghai: Stocks dip at open

[HONG KONG] Shares in Hong Kong and Shanghai retreated at the open Wednesday as China growth worries were rekindled by the previous day's weak trade data, while traders await the release of fresh figures on consumer prices later in the day.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong fell 0.89 per cent, or 201.64 points, to 22,398.82.

And in Shanghai the composite index slid 0.40 per cent, or 13.21 points, to 3,280.02, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, also lost 0.40 per cent, or 7.70 points, to 1,899.42.
