Hong Kong, Shanghai: Stocks down at open
[HONG KONG] Hong Kong and Shanghai shares fell in the first few minutes of trade Wednesday, tracking heavy losses in New York and Europe fuelled by worries over the global economy.
The Hang Seng Index sank 0.58 per cent, or 120.44 points, to 20,556.50 in the first few minutes.
And the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.32 per cent, or 9.61 points, to 2,983.03, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, lost 0.36 per cent, or 6.92 points, to 1,922.11.
