Hong Kong, Shanghai: Stocks extend losses at open

[HONG KONG] Hong Kong and mainland Chinese stocks fell again Tuesday following another sell-off in New York and Europe, while investors also awaited a decision by index compiler MSCI on whether to include Shanghai in its global benchmarks.

The Hang Seng Index eased 0.18 per cent, or 36.24 points, to 20,476.75.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.31 per cent, or 8.84 points, to 2,824.23 and the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, lost 0.52 per cent, or 9.59 points, to 1,817.77.
