Hong Kong, Shanghai: Stocks open higher after global rally

    [HONG KONG] Hong Kong and Shanghai stocks advanced at the open Wednesday, tracking overnight gains in US and European markets.

    The Hang Seng Index surged 1.85 per cent, or 365.91 points, to 20,196.34.

    The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.47 per cent, or 13.36 points, to 2,835.03 and the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, gained 0.64 per cent, or 11.47 points, to 1,816.07.
