[HONG KONG] Hong Kong shares plunged almost two percent in the opening minutes of trade on Thursday, in line with a collapse across Asia and following hefty selling on Wall Street as investors grow increasingly worried about the global outlook.

The Hang Seng Index sank 1.91 per cent, or 483.06 points, to 24,766.72.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dived 2.40 percent, or 62.37 points, to 2,540.93, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, tumbled 2.99 per cent, or 37.47 points, to 1,259.75.
