Hong Kong stocks surge, boosted by energy sector rally
[HONG KONG] Hong Kong stocks surged more than 1 per cent on Thursday, in line with a rally across Asian markets as energy firms were fired up by big gains in oil prices, while Syria and trade fears were also easing.
The Hang Seng Index jumped 1.40 per cent, or 424.19 points, to 30,708.44 after four straight losses.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.84 per cent, or 25.98 points, to 3,117.38 and the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, put on 0.60 per cent, or 10.80 points, to 1,814.64.
