Singapore shares begin afternoon trading on negative ground; STI at 3,518.48

SINGAPORE shares resumed trading on Wednesday afternoon in negative territory with the Straits Times Index at 3,518.48, down 0.2 per cent, or 6.17 points, on the day as at 1.03pm.

Losers outnumbered gainers 204 to 157, or about nine down for every seven up, with 860.9 million shares worth S$577 million in total changing hands, working out to an average unit price of S$0.67 per share.

Among the active stocks, Spackman entered the afternoon session up 9.1 per cent, or 0.9 Singapore cent, at 10.8 Singapore cents apiece with 34.32 million shares traded. Midas was the second-most traded with some 21.79 million shares changing hands at 17 Singapore cents apiece, down 1.16 per cent or 0.2 Singapore cent.

Active index stocks included DBS, down 0.23 per cent or six Singapore cents, at S$26.45; and Singtel, down 0.28 per cent or one Singapore cent, at S$3.62.
