Singapore shares close 1.2% higher on Friday

SINGAPORE stocks ended higher on Friday, with the Straits Times Index advancing 37.25 points or 1.2 per cent to 3,217.68. 

Gainers outnumbered losers 261 to 156, after about 1.63 billion shares worth S$1.71 billion changed hands.

The most actively traded counters were YZJ Shipbuilding SG which closed flat at S$1.16, with 54.6 million shares; and Genting Singapore, which gained 3.9 per cent to S$1.07, with 51.7 million shares traded. 

Other active stocks included Keppel Corp which rose 3.4 per cent to S$7.03 and DBS, which added 3.2 per cent to S$26.03.
