SINGAPORE shares ended flat on Friday as investors were unnerved by US trade tariffs on steel and aluminium imports, and possible retaliatory moves.

The Straits Times Index (STI) opened at 3,494.43, but closed at 3,485.57, up 5.13 points, or 0.15 per cent, from the previous day's close. About 1.7 billion shares, worth S$1.1 billion, were traded, with 247 gainers to 188 losers.

Creative Technology hit S$6.82, before settling at S$6.54, up 63 Singapore cents, or 10.7 per cent, from Thursday's close. The stock got a boost as more analysts and IT media are impressed by Creative's Super X-Fi system, which promises to turn ordinary headphones into a full surround-sound setup.
