Singapore shares gain 0.36% to 2,828.65 at Monday's opening

SINGAPORE stocks opened higher on Monday, with the Straits Times Index (STI) gaining 0.36 per cent or 10.16 points to 2,828.65 at 9am despite weakness in the Japanese markets.

Gainers outnumbered losers 61 to 42, or about three up for every two down, after 30.4 million shares worth S$41.9 million changed hands.

Singapore Telecommunications led the index stocks higher, adding 0.8 per cent or three Singapore cents to S$3.78. The banks opened in positive territory as well, with DBS Group Holdings increasing by 0.07 per cent or one Singapore cent to S$15.22.

EcoWise Holdings was the most heavily traded stock with 2.8 million shares traded as at 9am. The stock was up by 8.3 per cent or 0.3 Singapore cent to trade at 3.9 Singapore cents.
