SINGAPORE shares opened higher on Tuesday with the Straits Times Index (STI) up 12.92 points, or 0.41 per cent, to 3,139.80 as at 9.01 am.

Stock futures in Australia, South Korea, and Hong Kong all climbed at least 0.3 per cent, suggesting a recovering sentiment after Friday's decision to cancel voting on the US healthcare bill sent wobbles across global stock markets.

Top gainers in early morning trade included Jardine C&C, DBS and UOB.

Some 33.9 million shares worth S$63.5 million changed hands, with gainers outnumbering losers 94 to 26.
