Singapore shares open 0.5 per cent up on Wednesday

THE local market opened 0.5 per cent higher as at 9.00am on Wednesday, with the Straits Times Index rising 13.99 points to 3,033.02.
The blue-chip index gained despite a mildly lower finish on Wall Street.
About 81.7 million shares worth S$25 million in total changed hands, which worked out to an average unit price of S$0.31 per share.
The most actively traded stock was Hu An Cable, which rose S$0.004 to S$0.016 with 27.4 million shares changing hands. Other actives included New Silkroutes and China Environment.
Gainers outnumbered losers 86 to 49, or about seven up for every four down.
