Singapore shares open higher on Tuesday; STI up 0.5%
SINGAPORE stocks opened higher on Tuesday, with the Straits Times Index gaining 0.5 per cent, or 16.49 points to 3,572.34 as at 9.01am.
This came as Wall Street ended higher overnight, with all three US indices rising and tech stocks posting the strongest gains.
On the Singapore bourse, about 43.8 million shares worth S$76.5 million changed hands.
Gainers outnumbered losers 111 to 30.
The most actively traded counter were Best World International, which rose 5.1 per cent, or seven Singapore cents to S$1.44 with 5.2 million shares traded; and Genting Singapore which was flat at S$1.21 with 4.2 million shares traded.
Other active index stocks included UOB which rose 1.1 per cent, or S$0.32 to S$28.78; and OCBC Bank, which rose 0.7 per cent, or S$0.10 to S$13.57.
