Tokyo: Shares open higher ahead of poll

[TOKYO] Tokyo shares edged higher at the start of trade Thursday, as investors moved cautiously ahead of Britain's knife-edge referendum on its European Union membership later in the day.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange ticked up 0.20 per cent, or 32.89 points, to 16,098.61 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares was up 0.09 per cent, or 1.11 points, at 1,285.72.
