Tokyo: Shares open higher on weaker yen, Wall Street gains

[TOKYO] Tokyo shares opened sharply higher Thursday as a weaker yen lifted exporters following a positive lead from Wall Street on gains in oil prices.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 1.66 per cent, or 280.73 points, to 17,187.27 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares gained 1.54 per cent, or 20.98 points, to 1,386.76.
