[TOKYO] Tokyo shares dropped more than two per cent Thursday as a surging yen dented exporters, a day after Tokyo announced it was delaying a sales tax hike that threatened to hit Japan's struggling economy.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index slumped 2.32 per cent, or 393.18 points, to close at 16,562.55, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares tumbled 2.22 per cent, or 30.26 points, to 1,331.81.
