Tokyo: Stocks close down 0.98%

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks fell 0.98 per cent on Thursday, as a pick-up in the yen hit exporters, while Wall Street provided a lacklustre lead following a disappointing US retail sales report.
The Nikkei 225 at the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 194.48 points to close at 19,570.24 while the Topix index of all first-section shares shed 0.79 per cent, or 12.72 points, to 1,591.49.
