Tokyo: Stocks close higher

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks closed higher on Tuesday as shares in top automakers Toyota and Nissan rose, while energy shares jumped after oil prices surged to six-month highs.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index gained 1.13 per cent, or 186.40 points, to close at 16,652.80, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares advanced 1.07 per cent, or 14.20 points, to 1,335.85.
