Tokyo: Stocks close higher

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks rose on Tuesday as earnings season picked up, with investors taking heart from figures showing an uptick in company profits even as a strong yen capped gains.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index rose 0.30 per cent, or 60.61 points, to close at 19,985.79, while the Topix index of all first-section issues was up 0.61 per cent, or 9.89 points, at 1,628.50.
