Tokyo: Stocks end week up as Line messenger app soars
[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks ended the week on a high Friday as messaging app Line skyrocketed in its Japanese trading debut and after Uniqlo-operator Fast Retailing surged on strong quarterly financial results.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index advanced 0.68 per cent, or 111.96 points, to close at 16,497.85, booking its fifth straight winning session. It rose more than nine per cent over the five days.
The broader Topix index of all first-section shares gained 0.45 per cent, or 5.94 points, to end at 1,317.10.
