Tokyo: Stocks open 0.49% higher

[TOKYO] Tokyo shares opened 0.49 per cent higher on Wednesday after the Chinese central bank slashed interest rates for the fifth time in nine months to shore up the world's second-largest economy.
The Nikkei-225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange opened 87.59 points higher at 17,894.29.
