[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened flat in the first few minutes of trade on Friday, as a higher yen weighed on the market despite record closes in US stocks.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index edged up 0.04 per cent or 9.35 points to 23,719.78 in early trade while the broader Topix index opened down 0.13 per cent or 2.54 points at 1,885.55.
