Tokyo: Stocks open higher as sentiment improves

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened higher on Tuesday, as investor sentiment improved following rallies on Wall Street with expectations growing for a year-end shopping spree.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index was up 0.69 per cent or 149.62 points at 21,961.62 in early trade, while the broader Topix index was up 0.68 per cent or 11.13 points at 1,643.33.
