Tokyo: Stocks open higher, encouraged by upbeat US data

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened higher on Monday supported by brisk US jobs growth and manufacturing data last weekend that boosted US shares.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index rose 0.84 per cent or 187.16 points to 22,358.51 in early trade while the broader Topix index was up 0.89 per cent or 15.49 points at 1,764.66.
